Broadway – The Gourmet Theatre, HSR

Last weekend I was craving for some nigiri and there are very few places nearby that serve sushi, “Broadway” being one of them. Their menu offers a fairly decent range of Indian fares as well, along with the Japanese staples.

I am glad we made a reservation since the place was packed during lunch. Ambience is simple and the place is done up in neutral colours. They have some outdoor seating as well, which I am sure is lovely in the evenings. But it was way too hot in the afternoon, so we chose to sit in.

Sunny Cafe & Kitchen, HSR Layout

“Sunny Cafe & Kitchen” is located at the same spot in HSR, where “Sizzling Monk” used to be. We visited the cafe over last weekend for lunch and tried out a few things.

The seating here hasn’t changed much, except for an increased number of tables outside. The menu offers a little bit of everything: burgers, sandwiches, pasta, sizzlers, North Indian curries etc. Beverages include a variety of coffees, teas, fresh juices and smoothies.

Uptown Sliders & Shakes, HSR Layout

Fantastic find for those slider cravings!

A couple of days back we had ordered burgers from a certain very popular place in Koramangala, which turned out to be disappointing. So we thought of trying out this new place hoping to find a nice burger place and I’m glad we did!

We placed an order for a portion of flake fried veg slider and an American chicken slider.

The Colony Gastropub, HSR Layout

“The Colony Gastropub” is the newest watering hole in HSR and is a beautiful place to dine at. I took an immediate liking to this place which is spread across two floors and has terrace seating too. But we had to get a table on the lower floor since it was drizzling.

This floor looked like just the prefect place to unwind. I think not many people are aware of this lounge yet, so it was sparsely populated on a Saturday evening. We got a comfy couch by the window and started skimming through their menus.

Bathinda Junction, HSR

On the last day of pujo, we went for a dinner takeaway to Bathinda Junction. The place has a dhaba like setup with charpais(woven rope beds) etc. It was completely packed when we reached and there was a queue even for takeaway.

The restaurant has too many tables and charpais crammed into a small area. There isn’t much to the decor apart from a few photos of Punjabi singers/actors, but they do have loud Punjabi music playing in the background.

Pabrai’s Fresh & Naturelle Icecreams, HSR Layout

I am going to start off this blog with a little info on a particular type of jaggery called ‘Nolen gur’. It is also known as ‘Notun (new/fresh) gur(jaggery)’ or ‘Khejur (date palm, not to be confused with palmyra tree) gur’ and is prepared only in winters. It is available in semisolid state when freshly prepared, and also sold in its solidified form as circular/oval disks called ‘Patali(vaguely translates to solid disk) gur’.

I am pretty sure most Bongs have a weakness for this taste. 🙂 As for me, mere mention of this name brings back sweet memories from winter holidays in my village. Though I haven’t had nolen gur for a while now, I still remember the grainy gooey texture and its unparalleled rich taste. And how Boro Ma (great-grandmother) used to give me spoonfuls of it on demand, without anyone noticing 🙂

Kapoor’s Cafe, HSR

Last weekend we were looking for some good Punjabi food nearby, when I remembered Kapoor’s Cafe had recently opened a branch in HSR. The eatery is spread across two floors, one with the usual table & chair seating and another one with dhaba style charpais/khatiyas (woven rope beds).

The restaurant doesn’t have valet parking, but that’s the good thing about HSR, it’s never difficult to find a parking place in front of restaurants 🙂

We wanted to get some takeaway and placed an order for pudina khasta paratha, khasta paratha, matar paneer and dal makhni(you cannot go to a Punjabi place and leave without having dal makhni 🙂 ). Their menu is pretty big and has lots of combos as well. I also noticed white butter, but I guess that won’t be suitable for takeaway/home delivery.
