Goa diaries, Day 1

We made a pit stop at Dudhsagar Spa Resort on the way to North Goa. It’s a big open place near Mollem check post, you can’t miss it.

Service was very slow but our pakoras turned out to be fresh and tasty. We finished our snacks and started for our first destination Calangute, which took around an hour and half to reach.
We had booked a lagoon villa in Calangute Casitas on Airbnb this time, since we were staying for a longer duration and didn’t want to eat out all the time. This was first experience with Airbnb, which unfortunately didn’t turn out to be all that nice due to various reasons.

Ours was a 3 bedroom spacious villa, and was around 1.5 kms from beach. There was a pool in front which all of us enjoyed a lot. We finished lunch at the villa and decided to hit the beach.

Calangute and Baga are probably the busiest beaches in North Goa. There are zillions of shacks, massage ladies, people selling trinkets etc and of course water sports.

For dinner, we went to Calangute beach in search of live music and good food. Some of us heard live music at a place called Ratna Sagar and we decided to try it out. The restaurant is located in the main market, where the shacks end.

The restaurant turned out to be a total disaster. There were 6 of us and this being a lean season, we easily got a table. There were some out of tune singers singing(or should I say spoiling!) old Hindi songs.

We ordered for some beers, jager bomb, fish fingers, gobhi manchurian and prawns masala. Service was quick, but food and beverages were really bad. We finished quickly and went to another place right opposite called Escapade.

This place looked gorgeous with beautiful seating overlooking the sea. We were a little skeptical since the place was empty, but the place looked so charming that we couldn’t leave without trying it out. We ordered for another round of beers, mushroom pizza, veg fried rice, fish curry and rice.

I loved the thin crust pizza which had lots of cheese, mushrooms, peppers and onions. Crust was beautifully done and we loved it so much that we ended up ordering another one. Fish curry was also good and flavourful. Fried rice was average.

I would definitely recommend this place for its beautiful ambiance and good food.

We decided to retire to bed and hit the beach early next morning.
