HSR’s food scene is rapidly evolving, and it’s good to see so many new places popping up. Tea trails opened its first outlet in Koramangala a few months back, followed by this one in HSR recently.
It is a small cafe located on HSR main road with a sizeable tea menu. They have some seating on first floor as well, but it was reserved for a private party when we visited. They have an extensive tea menu and a pretty good food menu too.
Decor is simple with rustic looking white brick walls adorned with a few posters. Their air conditioning was not working, and that made the place feel somewhat stuffy. I didn’t really mind lack of music, but the incessant loud chatter of servers was a little distracting.
We asked for a Darjeeling first flush tea, five spices chai, potato wedges and pan fried poha(flattened rice) cutlets.
My Darjeeling first flush tea arrived in a tea strainer and I was asked to let it brew for four minutes. Five spices chai and the food arrived soon after. Both the teas were accompanied by cookies and tasted quite nice. Five spices chai had aromas of different spices and Darjeeling tea was lovely and refreshing.
I quite liked the potato wedges. Fried well and lightly spiced, they tasted delicious. Poha cutlet looked interesting on the menu, but tasted more like a soft aloo tikki. I would have loved to see some more crunch on them.
This is a nice cafe with a lot of potential, it just needs some finishing touches, e.g. tea strainer was leaking and tea tray was not very clean. Food is good and so are the teas.
Now it’s time for some tea gyan 😀 Darjeeling tea is often considered the champagne of teas, but do you know what first flush Darjeeling tea is? Read all about it here.
