Such a sad day. I was having such a good time shopping in Phoenix Market City a couple of days back and looking forward to a delicious lunch afterwards in Noodle Bar. Unfortunately, we reached the restaurant and saw it was closed. And then it got worse, when we found out that most of the eateries were closed due to prohibition in the city 😦
I was in no mood to have lunch in food court, and thankfully we stumbled upon Hungry Monk, which is located in a secluded corner of the mall.
We chose a table in their outside area, since the interiors looked dark and gloomy. The place doesn’t have much for decor. But they had done something nice. All the tables had a ludo board embedded on top, to make sure one didn’t get bored waiting for food 🙂
I liked their menu, it had quite a lot of choices. We ordered for a portion of veg steamed momos, hakka noodles and a tofu & mushroom gravy (can’t recall the name).
Our server was very attentive, probably because we were the only customers 🙂 And service was quick too. Momos arrived in a bamboo steamer and looked good. Taste-wise they were okay, with the usual cabbage and carrot stuffing. But we were starving and didn’t really mind.
Main course was served soon after. Noodles looked good, portions were good and tasted good too. Not authentic Chinese, but the sort our Indian taste buds sometimes crave for 😀 I liked the gravy too, tofu was batter fried, but hadn’t become chewy. Mushrooms were lovely and well cooked. My only complaint would be with the tiny spice balls they had used, which were not mixed well with the gravy. I’m not sure what they were, but they had an extremely pungent and sour flavour.
We had a decent lunch, though I am not sure I would choose this over Noodle Bar next time 🙂
