Braving the city traffic and going to High Ultra Lounge in Malleshwaram this Saturday was a feat in itself!
This lounge is located on the 31st floor of World Trade Center, and is touted as the highest sky lounge in South India. It took us more than 1.5 hours to reach the place, and was it worth? Read on.
I had made a reservation through Zomato, and reached an hour late (thanks to Bangalore traffic!). The receptionist said they had tables available and I heaved a sigh of relief.
The lounge is divide into 3 sections:
- A sky lounge, which is open from all sides and was buzzing when we reached.
- A dance floor with a bar counter and few tables on the edge. The DJ hadn’t arrived by then, but had booming music later.
- Another dining area, which is open to sky, but has glass walls. This was comparatively quieter.
- Another lobby area which neither has view, nor music. 😀
I felt the place was not well managed. There was no one to show us to our table initially. We asked their staff about our table, and he pointed us to the sky lounge saying “you can sit wherever you want”. That sounded a little confusing, since all the tables on the edge were occupied. Eventually another person came, and told us that we can get a table in the high dining area(the one with glass walls).
So we got seated there, and ordered for mushrooms in soy garlic sauce, a mojito and a long island iced tea. Needless to say, the drinks were somewhat expensive (the food prices were okay though). The view was excellent from where we sat, the metro looked like a toy train crawling to its destination 🙂 But the noise was disturbing, and I am calling it noise since it was just the residual music from high lounge section.
Mushrooms arrived soon and were truly amazing and the sauce was delicious. I wanted straws and stirrers for our drinks, but got to know they had gone the no-plastic route. Our very sweet server had an ingenious solution and got us chopsticks instead, which could be used as stirrers. Smart! 🙂
Cocktails were highly disappointing. I completely fail to understand how a bartender at such a lounge could spoil classics like these. My mojito was an excellent lemonade with almost no alcohol. Same was the case with LIT, it was just some cola on rocks. We immediately decided to move out after finishing our food and drinks. Why would a place charge so much for cocktails and serve such nonsense!
I had such high expectations from this place, and it turned out to be so disappointing. The only selling point of this lounge is its view, totally not worth traveling for 1.5 hours in city traffic.
Never going back and won’t recommend also. If you want a view with delicious drinks, go to places on M G Road or UB City or the numerous excellent lounges in Indiranagar/Koramangala. Or if you stay on one of the higher floors in a high rise apartment, enjoy drinks in your balcony 🙂
