Disappointing food & service@ Toscano, Forum Mall

It’s quite rare that I get so disappointed with such a gorgeous place. We had a movie to catch on Saturday, and as usual some time to kill before that 🙂 A new outlet of Toscano had recently opened in Forum, at the same place where the once famous Sahib Sindh Sultan used to exist.

Both Toscano and Salt (Indian grill and bar) have a common entrance. The place was packed, but we got lucky and were quickly shown to the only empty table. The place looks beautiful and has perfect lighting. Bar section looks striking, decorated with an array of wine and cocktail glasses.

Tables are well placed, so the place doesn’t feel stuffy even when it’s full.

It took us a while to catch the attention of servers and get a menu. Their food menu is quite extensive and so is the wine & cocktail menu. We ordered for a vegetarian platter and red & white wines. Upon asking our server what constituted the platter, he mumbled something we couldn’t understand. All I could hear was crostini and cheese, and I pictured a platter with crostini and different cheeses.

They served some complimentary breads soon with pesto and herb butter dips. Breads were alright, nothing really special about them.

And then we began our longest wait ever for food. After 20 minutes, I started getting a little impatient and enquired about our platter. The server said it contains many different things, so it’s taking a while.

Another 20 minutes passed and I was really annoyed by now. I asked the server again and he gave the same lame excuse that platter contains many things. Well okay, but 40 minutes?

After another 10 minutes, our platter arrived and it was the most disappointing thing ever. It basically consisted of things which can be prepared under 10 minutes. It had 2 pieces each of crostini, some sort of veggie fingers, a little bit of salad and the best part was 2 huge raw tomatoes with a little bit of brie cheese. I am not an expert on Italian food, but I am sure whole tomatoes and cheese are not a part of it. Had the chef forgotten to slice the tomatoes? I am not even sure if the platter was fully prepared before it arrived at our table.

We quickly finished whatever was edible on that sorry platter, paid our check and left the place, eventually went to Mcdonald’s and had burgers 😦

After bad experiences at 2 different Toscano outlets, I will now steer clear of this place.
